History on Wikipedia Dom Fer. HERE and Asheron HERE

The frigate Dom Fernando was built in India, a Portuguese colony, as the last Portuguese sailing warship. She was built of very high quality Teak wood. This was reflected in her longevity. Construction began in 1843 and she was commissioned in 1845 and named after the Portuguese royal couple. The 1st gun deck was fitted with conventional guns, the second with carronades. During her active service she mainly accompanied the merchant fleet and provided security in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. After 1865 until 1878 she was modified for gunnery training. During her active service she sailed 100,000 nautical miles - i.e. 5 times around the globe.
The Navy still used her as a permanent mooring until 1939 for training and gunnery. Then, from 1940-1963, charitable organizations organized basic naval training for children from poor families on her. In 1963, however, she sank in a fire.
In 1992 the wreck was raised and restored for the EXPO98 World Exhibition. Since then she has been in Lisbon and has been restored to her 1850 appearance.
The frigate Acheron never really existed. The ship of this name is famous for the movie Master and Commander where she portrayed the opponent of the real ship HMS Suprise under the command of Capt. "Lucky Jack" Aubrey as a French privateer. The famous frigate U.S.S. Constitution was used as a model for this film.
So the Russian firm Zvezda used this name and an existing kit of the Dom Fernando II from Revell and began selling it under the name Acheron.
Sometimes it takes a while to figure out what you're actually on.
Revell started producing this nice model in late 2011. Too bad it's not in a larger scale, like 1:150. The model is well made, but you can judge for yourself from the attached photos.
Dom Fernando II e Gloria - I will be the first to show photos of this kit and add a photo of the model of this frigate.
