I have little information on this model. The Mataró was one of the ships used in the voyages of the Italian explorer Marco Polo. The Mataró was part of the fleet used by Polo on his famous voyage to the East and subsequent stay in China. Marco Polo made his voyage in the late 13th century. The model is often associated with L'Mataro - see Catalan ship - the first known wooden model from the Middle Ages.
The model is well moulded, all parts fit well - standard Heller quality.
