This clipper is famous for its great speed. As early as 1851, when he set sail, he took part in a race where big bets were placed on the winner of a voyage from New York to San Francisco between him and the also very famous clipper Flying Fish. Swordfish won the race in 91 days. We have to remember that the boats had to sail around pretty much all of America around Cape Horn. In subsequent years the clipper carried goods mainly between New York, San Francisco, Hong Kong, etc. Eventually the ship was wrecked in the mouth of the Yangtze Kisny River after its anchor failed and the ship was cast ashore.

The model itself is very rare as this was indeed the first ever large model to be produced by the now defunct Louis Marx & Co. in 1955. Roughly 7 years before Revell began producing another large Cutty Sark model.

Again, the kit itself is one of the great collector's rarities. It is very well crafted. Interestingly, it wasn't until the third edition of the model that the deck molding plates were modified to make the deck look like wood.
