Instructions
The galleon Roter Löwe was built in the Netherlands in 1597 and was purchased in 1601 by the council of Königsberg for the needs of Brandenburg during the Polish–Swedish conflict. The ship later served as a guard and warship at the port of Pillau under the command of Captain Peter Hinze.
In 1608, under the command of Captain Johann Fetta, the galleon sailed to Lisbon with a cargo of timber, where she was later sold together with the cargo. Her final fate remains unknown.
The exact dimensions of Roter Löwe have not survived, however based on historical records describing a displacement of approximately 240 tons, it is possible to reconstruct a ship around 28 meters long and approximately 8 meters wide. The typical appearance of Renaissance European galleons included high stern structures, extensive rigging and richly decorated stern galleries.
Specialized HiSModel accessories focused on historically accurate rigging and ship details are also available for this model. A 5% discount on HiSModel accessories for this ship model is included with the kit purchase.
Available accessories include block sets for standing and running rigging, yard tackles, model ship ropes and other fittings based on historical plans and period references. The blocks feature the characteristic continental shape commonly used in Europe during this period and offer significantly more accurate historical detailing compared to the simplified kit parts.
