Captain Cook's famous ship on which he discovered a new continent. The ship was built in 1764 by the Earl of Pembroke, a coal merchant, to carry coal. It was 32 m long and had a displacement of 368 tons. However, in 1768 she was bought by the British Navy for an exploratory voyage to the South Pacific, where new lands of Tera Australia were expected. The ship was renamed H.M.S. Endeavour and sailed from Plymountn in August 1768 under the command of James Cook. In September 1769, after sailing to Tahiti and entering uncharted waters, she anchored off New Zealand. Bulo's was the first European ship after 127, the leading one here being Abel Tasman's Heemskerck. In April 1770 she was the first to reach the east coast of Australia. They sailed along the coast but then ran aground in the northern part of the Great Barrier Reef. The ship was beached for 7 weeks before basic repairs were made and then they barely made it to the port of Batavia in the Dutch East Indies. Here the ship was completely repaired. However, the crew had to keep the knowledge they had gained about the new territories secret. After repairs, they sailed around the Cape of Good Hope back to England, arriving almost three years later on 12 July 1771. After that, the ship was forgotten. She continued to carry supplies to the Falkland Islands for the navy for another 3 years before being sold. She briefly returned to service in 1775 when transporting troops during the American Revolutionary Wars. She was finally sunk during the blockade in 1778 off Rhode Island near Narragansett Bay. This is on the southeast coast of the United States. Although her wreck was never precisely located, her anchors and 6 guns are in the museum. A replica of the ship was built in 1994 and belongs to the Australian National Maritime Museum.
