Material: veneer thickness 0.3 mm, laminated: beech and oak
Description of deck: The deck is designed according to historical shipbuilding practice of the period. The peripheral planks (“waterway”) are reproduced, including the correct plank layout and narrowing toward the stern. On the bow, the characteristic hooked plank endings (“hacking”) are represented. Marked treenails show fastening to the deck beams (“treenline”), corresponding to historical plans.
The schematic plan of the hull and the forward section of the main deck is based on the book The 44 Gun Frigate USS Constitution, available in the book section of this website. The deck appearance can also be verified through virtual tour imagery of the ship.
The veneer deck precisely fits the plastic deck of the Revell kit. All openings are laser cut to match the original plastic parts. Compared to the original kit deck, which is difficult to assemble cleanly, the veneer overlay significantly improves realism and ease of finishing.
