This set includes 20 studding sails corresponding to the period 1803–1815. Studding sails were set in favourable wind conditions to increase sail area and improve the vessel’s speed.
The sails are sewn according to U.S. naval regulations derived from British practice. Patterns are based on the publication Anatomy of the Ship – The 44-Gun Frigate USS Constitution.
Construction details include reinforced head edges, corner reinforcements, reef bands and preparation for bolt rope attachment.
