In the above link we find mainly information about the history and construction of whaling ships. The Wanderer was built as the last whaling ship in 1878 at the famous Mattapoisett whaling yard, where perhaps several dozen whaling ships were built.
The ship was 33.5m long, 8m wide and had a draft of almost 5m. The displacement was 228 tons and the crew consisted of 32 men.
The history of the ship in the manual, apart from technical data, is basically about the end of the ship. The ship anchored before her last whaling voyage at Buzzards Bay in the Indian Ocean. On September 27, 1924, a hurricane blew in from the western Indian Ocean, ripping the ship from its anchors and blowing it onto a local reef called Cuttyhunk Rockd. Here the ship found total destruction.
The model itself is very well made. The hull itself is 33 cm long. Consider that the kit was made by Aurora in 1966. The model is not lacking in any detail, it also has nicely done "wood parts" including wood grain depressions and positive engraving on the deck and hull. Note that the 6 whaleboats also have a full complement of equipment - oars, 2 spearguns and a mast with a furled sail. Too bad the sails are molded in at the same time as the booms. However, these can easily be replaced with canvas ones, and we can either cut the booms off or make new ones too.
