Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Venetian caraca was a specific type of medieval sailing ship that was developed in the Republic of Venice in the 14th century. Carracas were sturdy vessels that served as merchant and warships. The Venetian carrack was one of many variants of this type of vessel.
Venetian carracks were designed with the needs of trade and naval defence of the Republic of Venice, a major naval power during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in mind. These ships were usually armed and had ample cargo space, which allowed their use in trade routes and defensive operations.
The design of Venetian carracks was typical of the time, with a high forecastle and low stern. They had different types of sails and could be propelled by oars or steam engines if later modified. The Venetian carrack represented one of the many variants of carracks that were used by various naval powers in the Mediterranean area during the Middle Ages.
