This model is a very interesting rarity. Nowadays it is very hard to find. The Harriett Lane steamboat kit was produced by Pyro and later by Lindberg under the name Blockade Runner.

The ship itself had a very interesting and eventful history. She was built in New York in 1857 as a customs cutter. In 1858 she was classified as a warship and was sent to Paraguay. On her return she served again as a customs ship. After the start of the Civil War, she was again reassigned to the Navy. She took part in many important actions in which she played an important or leading role. She also fought at New Orleans and on the Mississippi River. In 1863, she was captured by Confederate troops during the fighting. The ship was subsequently disarmed and sent to Havana with a cargo of cotton. However, a Union ship was already waiting for her, so the Confederate captain set fire to the cotton and let the ship run aground. The Harriet Lane was repaired and eventually sold and renamed the Elliot Ritchie. She carried coal and other goods. Eventually, after a fire started in one of the warehouses, the crew abandoned the ship and left her at sea. That was in 1881.

According to the data from the model and other sources, the length is 88m width 9m, draught 4m, and thus scale 1:114, displacement 670 tons.

The model of this ship is quite simple, yet nicely made.
