History on Wikipedia HERE

A model of the magnificent clipper ship that was launched in Manhattan, New York in 1846. The ship measured 59 m and carried 908 tons of cargo. It served mainly as a transport ship for the rapid import of goods from China to the west coast of the USA, mainly tea and porcelain. The ship was specially designed for fast sailing. The sailing ship with a 43 m high mast was at one time the tallest ship at sea. Under chap. Waterman, known as "Bad Bob", she set a speed record in 1847 by sailing from Hong Kong to New York in 77 days. She lowered it further in 1849 to 74 days. This speed record has not been broken by any sailing ship since! After the early 1850s, the ship began to have technical problems and her fast shipping service was taken over by more modern ships. She began carrying immigrants from China to the US. She was wrecked in 1856 with about 500 immigrants on board. She ran aground about 19 km west of Havana.
